The Halifax Bomber Memorial

On 6th July 1944 twenty two Halifax bombers of 578 Squadron set out from RAF Burn in Yorkshire to bomb the V1 "flying bomb" launch site at Croixdalle in France.  The raid was successful, but one of the aircraft, MZ519-LKU, flown by P/O Reginald Parfitt and his crew, developed an engine fire on the way home and crashed near Farnsfield village with the loss of all the crew.

50 years later the villagers of Farnsfield, and relatives of the dead airmen, built this memorial.
